Chapter 7: The Past: Grace’s Dream
Grace was in her bed fast asleep. Shadow was next to her after accidentally falling asleep. Grace cringed and gasped and whined in her sleep she was having a nightmare.
Modern Japan 20 years ago:
“Wow Dusk Japan is so pretty! There are so many lights and colorful things!” A younger Grace looked around the city of Tokyo amazed.
Dusk grinned and nodded in agreement. “Yeah… This really is pretty awesome.”
Shadow groaned sarcastically behind Grace and Dusk. “So what id there are lights. We are nocturnal creatures we should enjoy the darkness not colorful things!”
Grace glared at Shadow her eyes glowing red. Her Brown hair started to get white streaks in it until Dusk put his hand on her shoulder and calmed her down.
“You can’t go all vampire here honey… You will reveal us and then we would have to leave…” Dusk spoke softly and kindly.
Grace giggled and nodded. “Thank you Dusk…” Shadow just rolled his eyes and pushed past them, walking ahead. He was fed up with the whole Dusk and Grace relationship. For some reason seeing them act like that annoyed him.
Dusk was starring up at the top of the buildings when he pointed to one of the tallest ones. He seemed very surprised and even slightly scared…
“Look there… A child is on the edge of the building.”
Grace bit her lip in a panic and looked around. She then took Dusk’s hand and drug him down an ally closely followed by Shadow. Grace let go of Dusks hand then took a deep breath. She then started to jump from ledge to ledge getting closer to the top as she went. Dusk and Shadow soon followed.
When Grace landed on the roof she grinned as kindly as she could. She look at the child on the edge of the building. Grace was taken by complete surprise.
The child was a young girl. She looked to be no older then 7 years old. Her hair was black and just a little above her shoulders. When she turned around she revealed that she had lilac eyes and light pink lips. She wore a crisp white dress that reached just above her knees.
The girl showed no emotion when she saw Grace, Shadow, and Dusk. The girl simply starred at them with blink eyes.
“Are you lost little girl?” Grace asked a little taken aback by the odd little girl
The girl did not answer she just continued to stare with blank eyes. Her lips quivered slightly but then her face was utterly still.
Shadow put his hand on Grace’s shoulder. “She isn’t human Grace… She is a blood demon like Dusk only not the good kind… not that Dusk is good,”
The little girl yell and made Grace and Shadow jump. “How dare you speak out of turn in front of me peasant!” The girls voice was a child’s but it had the authority belonging to someone at least 400 years old.
Grace blinked trying to comprehend what she heard. She couldn’t believe that this small girl was a demon. The girl spoke with such authority it must be true.”
Shadow was fuming now. “Hey you can’t talk to me like that kid!”
The girls eyes flashed as she turned to face Shadow. Then she laughed. “Kid? Kid! I’m 700 years old! You’re the kid you lowlife vampire!”
Grace spoke up now a little frightened by the little girl. “W…w…who…are…y…you?”
The little girl turned to Grace and bowed slightly. “Princess Grace… I and Zandra, Queen of the whole Blood Demon Kingdom…Now tell me Mistress Grace, can you solve my riddle? You don’t know what you have until it is lost, but what happens when you’re the one who is lost?”
Grace tilted her head confused. “When your lost you wait until someone can find you.”
Zandra nodded in agreement then turned to Shadow. “You there, Peasant boy! If Princess Grace were to get lost would you find her? Or would it be that blood demon who you are traveling with.
Grace closed her eyes and smiled. Whatever she was thinking made her very happy. “Dusk…”
Shadow growled frustrated with Grace. He turned his back on Zandra and Grace and walked towards the edge of the building. Before he jumped down Zandra yelled at him.
“You’re a coward. Only cowards turn their back on the darkness!” Zandra scream carried only but a few feet but had the impact of a tiger’s roar.
Shadow spun back around and glared at Zandra. Then in a flash he must of thrown a knife for one was embed on the ground in front of the little girl.
Grace’s eyes opened in shock. She turned her head to see Shadow just as shocked by his own actions. Grace wearily turned her head back around to look at Zandra.
Zandra was starring down at the knife at her feet. Her hair covered her face making look dark and evil. Zandra’s body shook with anger. When Zandra looked up her face was twisted with rage.
“YOU DARE ATTACK THE BLOOD DEMON QUEEN?! YOUR LIFE WAS JUST CUT SHORT!” Zandra’s voice was loud enough to carry for miles.
Grace retreated behind Shadow. She had a terrified expression on her face. Her mouth quivered and she started to back away even from Shadow.
Zandra waved her hand that now glowed red and Shadow passed out. She waved her hand and a cut appeared on Grace’s arm. No blood came from Grace’s cut.
Zandra walked over to Shadow and kicked him in the ribs repeatedly. She laughed wickedly. Cruelness shined in her very eyes. She enjoyed torturing her enemies.
Grace growled. Her eyes shone red and her hair was white. Her gaze reached beyond Zandra to the unknown. She jumped and ran right into Zandra.
Zandra glared at Grace as she wiped blood from her lip. Her hair was not matted and her dress was covered in dirt. She growled and stood up. Her hands glowed red and ready.
“Princess Grace I’m surprised at you this is no way for a lady to act. Of course your no lady. You’re a monster just like me. Blood sucking leach!”
Grace growled and leapt forward with devastating speed. She not clutched Zandra by the throat. Grace’s face was blank and her eyes were solid red. She squeezed Zandra’s neck tighter.
The little girl snapped her fingers and 3 cuts appeared on Grace’s face. Grace dropped Zandra and jumped back growling something like a tiger only fiercer.
Zandra grinned and ran forward striking Grace on the face with her palm. Her face was now completely serious. She was ready to kill Grace.
Grace lunged forward and cut three long gashes into Zandra’s face. She now had bloody hands. Then suddenly a fresh wave of anger struck her. It was the smell of the blood. It made her thirsty. Thirsty for death and blood and vengeance.
In one swift movement Grace grabbed the girl and slammed her into the wall. Zandra’s head hit the cement…hard. Blood spat from her mouth but she was still conscience.
The girl grinned but didn’t fight. She spoke in a raspy choked voice and Grace gripped her throat ever tighter. “You’re a monster. You will always be a monster. Don’t you ever forget that. Your past will always be splattered with blood and the same with your future. You can’t escape. You…you are death.”
Grace screamed and slammed the girl into the wall again. This time the blow killed her. Grace continued to slam the girl in the wall until Shadow spoke a single word.
“Don’t” Shadow’s voice was pained and then he was silent again.
Grace’s eye’s turned back to lavender and she staggered blindly over to Shadow then she fell to her knees. Her kimono was covered in blood and her hair was matted with blood. Grace fell forward and coughed.
“I…I’m sorry…” Grace then fell unconscious.
