Dear Overworked and underpaid, I’m sorry to here that your family is struggling with money, but try not to feel ashamed of your family’s problem. Not everyone is fortunate enough to be born in a wealthy life style so trust me a lot of people feel the same way. It’s good that you help around the house and trust me it pays off when your older. If I had to do all that work and not get paid I’d be pretty mad too, but think about this, would you rather have electricity in the house or have an American Eagle sweater. I know how painful it is to see all your friends wearing great clothes and all the pretty clothes in the mall. But is it worth it to spend more money when your family is right now struggling? It’s hard when you don’t fit in with your friends. I don’t get an allowance either so don’t feel too sad. I know that fitting in with your friends is important but think about what would happen if you do get an allowance. If you get an allowance each month that adds up and that’s probably not the best thing to do when your family is under stress to save money. Getting money is hard work for a 13 year old. Trust me, I’ve tried. There aren’t a lot of jobs available when your just in middle school. Since you already babysit, you could do that. What you should do is instead of watching TV and going on the internet you could babysit some kids in your community. First see when your available and when your not. A perfect time would be when you have nothing to do and your not already babysitting your siblings. Another way you can get money is by walking dogs. Some of my friends hate to walk their dog because they think it’s boring. Some people don’t have time to walk their dog so go around and ask them if they would be interested in your service. It’s good that you have good grades even when you have so much other things to do. I know people who struggle when they have things to do outside of school. About the clothes thing, maybe you can just go up and ask some of your friends. If they are real friends they’d say sure, so don’t be shy to ask you friends about something.
