Honesty Honesty is when someone tells the truth. Sometimes telling the truth is not always to his or her advantage. Usually, parents tell their children that honest is an important characteristic that you should have or strive for. Honesty is important in many ways. Parents and grown-ups respect others that are honest. They trust that others will tell the truth. Children also look at honesty in a good way. They usually have friends that are honest. When someone does something bad and tells the teacher, the teacher will realize that child is honest. So when someone does that, they earn trust from others. Trust is important because then others will give more responsibilities to him or her. Like if someone were to gain trust with a teacher because he or she was honest. Then when a substitute was there for the teacher, the teacher might let he or she have more responsibilities than the some of the other students. Without honesty someone probably might not earn trust from others. Sometimes kids don’t listen to the parent when they tell them that honesty is important. Then they grow up to be someone who lies a lot. When he or she lies, he or she might not be trusted. When someone lies, he or she is also being dishonest. Most grown-ups don’t like kids that are dishonest. They would always doubt the child, even if at that time he or she was telling the truth. Someone who lies might not have as many friends. Sometimes when someone starts lying they just can’t stop. One lie covers the other and the other. Then he or she can’t stop because they are caught in a web of lies. Although, some people might question the significance of honesty, just remember it is always important. It builds trust and relationships with others. It helps us become a better person.
