Where could the Legends come from?
I believe that vampires did exist at one time but, their existance was cut short to save humanity.
Preflood.
Many angels followed Satan and came to earth to have sexual relations with human women. These angels were far more powerful than any man and could if so desired seem to "cast spells". They still had their powers when they came to earth so what would stop them from doing such to mislead mankind?
The bible already says that they chose many human women as wives and were extremely violent. It's not hard for me to picture, since the angels were very aware of spirituality having been in the presence of God, them setting up a false form of worship, themselves perhaps, and passing themselves off as Gods.
It was very much in their power to transform themselves into a creature that drinks the blood. The bible talks of how the fallen angels crave human flesh. Theres an account of this in a confrontation with Jesus and many fallen angels that called themselves, the legion. Theres also many accounts in the bible (and in non biblical accounts in history) of demon (nothing more than a fallen angel) possession.
For them the ultimate disgrace towards God is to drink blood because blood in the bible is sacred in Gods eyes and holds a special place with him. It's our life source and is to be respected. Were told by God to not eat the meat of an animal thats been strangled and not had it's blood drained. To do so is a sin.
After the flood God put restrictions on these fallen angels and they can no longer take on human form. They already showed how disruptive they would be if allowed to do so during their years on earth before the flood so God was not willing to let them have the freedoms they had before.
Anyway, this is where I think vampires came from and why we have such strong stories of them today.
