The beginning
“Rika get down here!!” a young 28 year old woman with dark grey hair yelled up the stairs of a beautiful and huge Japanese mansion. A young Black haired girl stood at the top of the stairs. “Yes mother………” the young girl walked down the stairs perfectly. Her kimono resembled that of a princess and it flowed behind her in a lovely fashion. Her long black hair reached the ground and at least a foot dragged behind her on the ground itself. Her hair was brushed perfectly. The maids did her hair every morning and they did a good job. Once she reached her mother’s side she was told to sit and wait. Rika sat in her perfect sitting pose. Rika, you see, was the daughter of the richest man and a very royal bloodline at that. The neighboring town’s rich man was the strongest man in Japan and had many henchman Rika’s father had none. He did however have many guards around him his daughter and the mansion where he lived. He was a very refined man and believed that every rule in the book must be followed.
A knock came to the door “ah here they are…………….”Rika’s mother perked up. One of the maids answered the door as the rest stood in a line bowing in unison “welcome young master……………..” they said in a chorus like unison. Rika thought “young master? What are they talking about?” Rika peered around past the maids there was a blonde boy the same age as her (5) standing there. “What’s so important about him??” she thought. The boy was led over to Rika and he smiled in a bratty way. “That’s my fiancé? I coulda gotten better in town. Sheesh” he snickered. Rika looked shocked. Rika’s mother bowed “I apologize Soroku-san…..but please accept her you’ll inherit the fortune when you marry her.” The boy smirked “fine” he replied. Rika was disappointed “why couldn’t he say no?” she thought.
5 years later
Soroku sat anxiously awaiting something his arms fidgeting about everything, every noise, every movement, everything you can imagine. Suddenly a knock came to the door of the huge mansion. Soroku bolted up and smiled and seemed to squirm with joy. Rika just looked up and watched Soroku anxiously twitch and squirm. A maid answered the door and bowed and moved to let someone in. There stood a boy with greyish brown/black hair. He had a much gentler expression then Soroku and was about the same age he definitely had a less refined air about him but also a very kind feel to him too.
“Kotomo!!! What took you so long?! I was waiting forever!!” Soroku stated pretending to be overly annoyed but it was more that he was impatient. Kotomo looked annoyed at this and sighed, “I’m not that late!! Like 2 minutes late at most!! You’re just way too impatient!!” Kotomo looked around as if looking for something, “Hey!!! Where is your practice sword?? Don’t tell me after that lecture you just gave me you don’t have it……..”
Soroku looked shocked then embarrassed. “We’re gonna be a little late eh heh……………oops….....,” Soroku said as he turned to run outside “RIKA DON’T BOTHER KOTOMO!!!!” Soroku yelled as he exited the door. Rika stared at where Soroku was and was extremely annoyed by that comment “He’s trying to make me look bad again……………I would never do that unlike him I have manners!!” Rika thought to herself.
Kotomo stared at Rika then he spoke “Are you the real Rika Matsumoto-san?” He asked waiting for a response. Rika nodded “I-I am……………” Kotomo made Rika feel nervous and shy and at the same time giddy she didn’t understand why but she felt it (she’s only 10 and she hasn’t seen the outside world). Kotomo smiled and started to approach her but as soon as he took two steps two guards were in his way, both in fighting position.
Kotomo backed off “w-woah relax!!! I wasn’t gonna hurt her!! I swear!! I was just gonna say hi!! I’m Soroku-kun’s friend!!!” The guards glared at him and eventually Kotomo stepped back. Both Kotomo and Rika were sad they couldn’t talk. Kotomo was bored waiting for Soroku. Rika was fascinated with the boy named ‘Kotomo’ she wanted to get to know him more.
Suddenly the silence was broken by Soroku bursting in. “Kotomo c’mon!!! We’re late!!! Hurry to the dojo!!!” Soroku yelled. Kotomo leaned down and picked up his wooden practice sword and yelled “And whose fault is that??” Soroku gave him a glare as they rushed out the door.
Rika headed upstairs but was stopped by her mother. “Rika how does that boy make u feel?” Rika’s mother was looking out the window of the room as she spoke. Rika looked forward at the wall opposite her “Which ‘boy’, Mother?” she asked still not looking at her mom. Rika’s mom turned to look at her. “Kotomo-kun is his name I believe.” She had a very serious look on her face. Rika answered honestly “he’s cute and he makes me feel fuzzy inside and giddy and I feel nervous around hi-“ Rika was silenced by a hard slap to the face. Rika covered where the pain was. She put her hand over her cheek and held back tears. Rika’s mother was glaring at her and her hand was prepared to slap Rika again. “YOU MAY ONLY LOVE THE ONE YOU ARE ENGAGED TO!! DO YOU UNDERSTAND ME??? IF YOU LOVE ANOTHER YOU WILL BE PUNISHED!!!” Rika’s mother screamed.
Rika’s mom is not known for getting mad or sad or any other emotion. She is horrifying when she is mad however, and Rika was facing that now. Guards and maids had been called in and had beat Rika under her mother’s orders. Soroku entered with Kotomo and he stretched and yawned. Then they both noticed Rika. She was wobbling and had a black eye and many bruises. Kotomo and even Soroku were both worried. They both ran over to Rika “What happened??? Are you ok???” They both asked at the same time. Rika looked up at them “I’m fine!!” she said trying to seem healthy and strong. Then Rika fell over unconscious as she coughed up blood
3 years later
Rika was now 13 years old and not much had changed. She had decided she didn’t love Kotomo (who regularly came by to visit Soroku and had become quite protective of Rika) anymore (this happened like not too long after her mom beat her). In fact Rika hadn’t fallen in love or even thought a boy was cute since. Boys didn’t interest Rika (and neither did the pain apparently) she was very lonely her mother was away a lot (she was happy about this) apparently doing business. Soroku was always out somewhere (he hung out with his friends Rika doesn’t have any because she can’t leave the house without a ton of bodyguards and even then it’s rare). Kotomo stopped by if he wasn’t busy working or hanging with Soroku and friends or at the dojo. He was her friend and he cared more about her then anyone. (she was close friends with a maid girl too) Rika wasn’t used to kindness and Kotomo felt he needed to protect her because of it. Due to this she learned of a boy who held Kotomo back. She hated this boy and wished he was dead.
Rika also had a hobby she kept a secret. She had a katana that she loved dearly and she knew how to use it like a pro. She never showed anyone and practiced in secret. One day she was taking a break under the window when she heard footsteps outside. She jumped up and stared out the window. Right next to the window stood a boy about 16 black hair and red eyes Rika suddenly felt similar to when she met Kotomo. Only this time she didn’t think about it she knew what it was she loved him however she had become good at hiding her emotions. “WHO ARE YOU????” she asked. The boy jumped and stared at her blushing and he seemed nervous as he responded “M-My name is Kuro!”
