The Unforgettable Journey
Chapter one: The River
I remember that day…oh do I. We were running around playing games when mother and father came out yelling and screaming. “children, listen to my words. Leave this place never to return. Don’t even look back.” Us being children had not one idea of what to think. “Miya, is mother and father mad, Or are they separating us from the world?” her eyes were filled with tears. ”They aren’t separating us from the world, they just” of course I didn’t finish my sentence. I couldn’t , the words I wanted to say would confuse poor Eve more. “Mother, why must we leave, why must the home we grew up in only be memories”? I was sobbing and trying to be strong for Eve. Eve was growing weary for the day was at its end and she grew tired of the yelling. “Miya, can we just go somewhere, I’m extremely tired and mother and father seem to have problems right now”. Of course we had no choice we had to embark on a journey, the unforgettable journey of life and death. My name is Miya, I am 16 and the oldest. My eyes are a swimming pool of light and my hair is a jungle. In my sister’s eyes I’m a mess of beauty. I am not tall but also not extremely short. My sister is 11 and the youngest. She has dark brown eyes that can put fear into people with one glance. Her hair is beautifully curly and at shoulder length. She is taller than me by an inch. She is really smart and surprises me sometimes. She is still just a child though as am I, but now I must look after her more than usual due to our little mishap with mother and father. We started our frightful journey by crossing Driftway river. We dug a hole near a tree for a shelter. Didn’t help when the rain came though. “Miya, why is it raining on a hot summers night?” she looked up at me curiously. “Well Eve, The water on the ground…” I was interrupted abruptly by Eve. “I know that, I’m not stupid Miya. I was wondering why it had to rain now?” I looked at her curiously “What do u mean Eve”? “like why now, why us…” she just kept asking these questions that I was unable to answer. “Why did mother and father tell us to go”? Eve just sat there silently waiting for my answers. “I’m sorry Eve, I don’t know the answers you are looking for.” she stared at me with a blank expression and her eyes…they scared me that night. The next morning Eve and I woke up to the sound of gun shots and screams. I looked into Eve’s terrified eyes and stared. “Eve, no matter what happens I want you to stay in the hole ok?” She glanced at me fearfully, “Where are you going, What are you going to do?” she yelled at me all these questions in which I had no intention of answering. “Just promise me that you will stay here no matter what” I placed my hands on her arms, she realized that I was serious and she nodded slowly. I could tell that it hurt her to promise these things. I crawled out of the hole and looked around as I crouched down. I whispered to Eve that I will return in a moment. She just stared at me blankly and sat down “why are you leaving me behind?” I stopped when she said that. I shot her a blank look. I’m not leaving you behind, I’m protecting you I said a little loudly. We heard men shouting that they heard something over there. Eve and I hid in our hole but I knew it wasn’t enough to hide us from the adults that were racing toward us with the weapons that could also be killing us. Eve knew what was happening, she could tell by reading my eyes. She looked at me and flashed a fake smile crying slightly. When the men got close enough to the hole I covered Eve’s mouth so she wouldn’t scream at the sight of the gun that rests in the mans arm. She looked at me and I nodded, knowing what we were going to do and knowing the consequences of our actions we decided to do it. Eve’s eyes started to change colors. First to blue then to red, she looked at me as my body started to Levitate above the hole. My eyes white. I took Eve’s hand and brought her up. She looked at the men and smirked. “Miya, what if we can’t do enough of what we must. What if we die?” Eve looked at the men again and shouted “Mishde-ov-dwula” all of a sudden there was a ray of Red light hitting the men and their guns evaporated. “Hash-delou-aquwas” I mumbled and opened my eyes and Eve’s blast became so much stronger and the men were gone. Eve and I fell and it started to rain again. When Eve woke up she couldn’t really move. All her energy was taken out of her and she saw me standing up by the tree. “good morning Miya” she said weakly. “Good morning Eve, how are you feeling” I asked concernedly because of last night. She struggled but stood up and used me for support. “Miya…when can we leave…I’m tired of the lake...I just want to go.” She said tipping over a little bit but catching herself before she could fall.
