Alexander Jericho

There were screams, cries of pain, fear, sorrow and fury. Monsterous roars and demented cackles. The glow of flames, the heavy scents of smoke, ash and blood, and the grotesque sight of blood and gore. It had all happened but a matter of hours ago. Out from the darkened crevice within the rocky walls of the mountain, through one of the few tunneled paths beneath Yggdersil's Spires, strained eyes caught to the hints of early moonlight flowing in from outside. A humanoid figure of average height, breathing heavily, staggered to the slim cave's entrance.
A young man emerged, bearing fair skin and youthful features, bright blond locks of medium length flowing down his scalp and across his forehead, bits of dried blood still remaining. Other stray hairs were raised, pointed out jagged in random directions from his scalp, unkept. His face was in a painful, tensed frown. His eyes, colored brilliantly with a mix of green and blue, speckled by flecks of silver and gold, were narrowed. He bore one beautiful looking scarlet red and royal blue robes, now bearing slashes and tears over them, and stains of darkened dirt, and dried crimson. One arm held itself to his side, pressed over one particularly reddened patch, the cut in the robe hear faintly showing darkened bandaging to a close and attentive observer from below.

"F...finally..." His voice scratchy with fatigue and pain. His ears, slightly pointed from below his hair, flicked ever so gently as he looked around, focusing his attention as he looked for any signs of a road. Before him, though, was thick forest 50 or so feet off from this opening of grass along the mountain's base. Not sensing any sign of a threat, he stepped towards the line of trees and bushes, a sword in sheath held at a blue-colored belt along his waist swaying as he walked with a limp. His eyes flickered back and forth, searching for anything of interest, use, or threat while he navigated.

Taimi was quiet while walking through some unknown forest. She hated to admit it, but she was kinda lost. All because of she got curious and wanted to explore it. Well, it wasn't the first time it happened, and it certainly wouldn't be the last time.

She stopped when spotting some herbs by a tree. Might as well pick some, she thought. As she knelt by them, she noticed some movement between the trees. Was someone else there? A person? A monster? Or maybe a spirit? She stayed quiet, wanting to be sure it was someone or something safe before maybe approaching.

The pale moon shone overhead, bathing the landscape in pale silver light. A shadow swiftly moved through the forest with grace, leaping across the branches of pine trees in a blur of speed. The shadow passed over the girl in the woods picking herbs, enough to peak her interest if only for a moment-- Celeste couldn't help but note the strange, almost 'shadowy' scent that accompanied the girl. However, she swiftly passed by, now focused solely on the art of the hunt.

A tang of blood tainted the air, it's sweet scent having been carried over to her through the wind blowing in from the nearby mountains. The aroma of the blood was tantalizing to the female vampire, and though a bit further away, it was nearly impossible for her to resist. Resisting the temptation of blood, her life force, was what had gotten her to this point in the first place... Sooner or later, her kind always had to hunt.

A haze of darkness began to materialize at the edge of the forest, atop the branches of a tall cedar tree. The elegantly curved silhouette of a female with silvery white hair that fell to her waist emerged from the shadows, wearing her formfitting black leather attire and a crimson cloak crafted of fine silk. She remained perched where she was, shimmering ruby eyes framed by soft black lashes locking onto her 'prey' down below, who was currently handsome male with blonde hair and striking blue-green eyes. The sweet aroma of his blood was enough to inform her that he was part elf, and that he had been recently injured.

The elegant features of her face grew contemplative, and Celeste felt at odds with herself... Was it truly fair to hunt prey that was already injured? While many vampires would claim it as survival of the fittest, Celeste couldn't help but feel differently... Yet the smell of his blood was just so tempting. It was growing harder for her to fight off her blood thirst with each passing moment. Her ruby gaze locked onto him, and she crept closer through the shadows in a predatory manner, with a smirk dancing across her lips that revealed a set of pearly white fangs.

Alexander Jericho

The young man of elven descent carefully slipped through the evening forest, keeping his movements slow and steady. He doubted running into anyone or anything in the night would be a good thing. The moon's light slipped through the trees in many pale streams. as his bright eyes focused through the darkness. He glanced back and forth as he slipped in deeper. He had managed to keep his breathing under control, leaning his stinging form into the bark for a moment. He looked towards the ground shaded from the moonlight, noticing much of it was speckled with many small plants of various species and types. He took a moment to kneel down, examining them more closely.

"T..these are...Adder's Tongue, All-Heale, Aloe..." There was a large array of herbs and other plants with useful properties here, where the forest met field and mountain. He glanced over the one of the bushes, noticing recognizable blackberries. He pressed his arm to his side for but a moment, before beginning together the various plants, pulling out a small bag to begin picking any of the plants that bore the medicinal properties he would need.

All while he did this, he was unaware, at least at first, as something had taken notice of his presence. A being of the night was drawn to the scent of his blood, and would be drawn to him, even over other potential prey. As he picked some of the herbs and berries, he paused, looking out as he heard the faint shifting of leaves from off around him. He narrowed his eyes and he searched for signs of movement. He felt it, something in the air not far off, with a touch of magical nature.
His gaze glanced back down as he grabbed a few Laumspur leaves, plucking them quickly from the red flower. He quickly shoved them into his mouth, biting down, as the juices began to flow from them. He chewed slowly as he stood, slipping them into his cheek as he stood. A gentle warmth flowed down his throat, seeming straight to his wounded side, and along his form, to his various cuts, bruises and scrapes. The pain throughout his body began to dampen, as his movements were less stiff. Their healing effects were quitet minimal in this state, but they would relieve the pain enough for him to function, and fight if he need be.

With his cheek partially stuffed by leaves, his closed his bag, slipping it into his robes, before lowering his hand to his sword. He turned his head quickly, searching for the source of the movement he had glanced for the glint and flash of eyes staring back at him, listening for foot steps and breathing. Finally, he spoke up. "Who's there?" He called out with his courage returning to face whatever was nearby.

Taimi had been silent while carefully watching the person, thinking of what to do. She could sneak away, but she had no idea where to go. If it was a decent person, then maybe they could direct her to a nearby settlement. Then again, randomly approaching a stranger in the dark could sometimes be a very bad idea.

Hearing him call out, she mistook that as being directed at her as she haven't noticed anyone else around them, and she haven't really thought of using her detection skill. She guessed she either screwed up hiding her presence, or he heard her, or was able to sense others.

She got up and cautiously approached the man. "Don't worry. I'm just a traveler," she said calmly as she stopped at a safe distance from him, to show she meant no harm. It would also give her time to react if this was a bad idea.

With the intoxicating scent of fresh blood lingering in the air, it was enough to draw in all her senses, fueling the natural predatory instincts that came with what she was. However, the female vampire maintained her calm composure from within the shadows, not yet making any sudden moves. Her observant ruby eyes carefully tracked each movement the blonde haired male made, as Celeste patiently awaited for an opportune moment to strike to present itself.

Her sensitive hearing, similar to that of a bat's, remained attuned to listening to the slightest of sounds around where she remained in hiding. Judging by his words, Celeste knew that he was searching for herbs to heal himself. She detected a slight change in the scent of his blood, one that was of a sweetened herbal quality, and was able to infer to herself that whatever herbs he'd found had taken effect. Celeste instinctively began to lower herself towards the ground, hiding in the shadows of the trees, though froze the moment that he called out towards her general direction. Celeste did not dare reply, not yet wanting to give away her location, a fleeting look of surprise shifting across the delicate features of her face.

Her surprise soon turned to relief the moment that the other female Celeste had spotted earlier, answered the call instead. Knowing that this could possibly act in her favor to provide a distraction, Celeste remained where she was, shifting part of her focus to the very shadows themselves. The darkness in the area began to gradually become heavier, similar to that of a thick fog, trying to drown out any remaining shreds of light. As she did so, Celeste started to slowly circle closer to where they stood, moving in silence from within the darkness.

Alexander Jericho

Standing their amid the darkness, his eyes gazing through the rays of moonlight, giving patches of color, and others rendered shades of grey in his dark vision, waiting for a response. Finally though, movement appeared once again. A form rose through the cover of leaves and branches, and slip into view as he gripped his hilt tightly, waiting for an attack. Having only survived combat a short few hours ago, he was on edge. Though, the figure drew closer, their form apparent now. They appeared to be a woman, a human woman, form what he could see. She wore light loose clothing of a traveler, and she would speak as she affixed her gaze upon him, confirming as such. He could feel something faintly supernatural upon her, but as to the nature of it, he was unclear. She paused her approach, and kept her body language at ease, indicating herself no threat in the process.

Cautiously, Alexander would speak to her, keeping his stance, his voice only slightly muffled by the leaves her chewed on. "What is a traveler doing walking around at night, this close to the Spires?" He asked in reference to the mountain range at which the forest they were within met here. Given the tensions between the elven and human countries here, it was rare for civilians or traders to get this close to the spires from their side, for fear of being caught up the skirmishes that still occurred here. Of course, Alexander wasn't exactly one to talk. "You must know it's not safe here. And why were you tracking me?" He asked, knowing he had been watched. He assumed at this point it had been her.

Amid their conversation, Alex would tense, as he felt magical activity. In confusion, he glanced around as the light began to fade, the shadows advancing. His eyes narrowed as he turned back to the travel, not seeing her making any gestures or moving her lips to induce the affect. Assuming she had been the source of this power, it confused him. "What are you doing?" He called out to her distrustfully. As the area around him darkened, his limited dark vision took greater hold, the 30 feet around him becoming increasingly grey, the rest disappearing.

The Spires? How in the world did I get that lost, she wondered. Even the monks had told her to stay away if possible. After a moment of thinking, she started to suspect her last, brief traveling companion who loved using magic to play pranks on others. Maybe before they went separated ways, she used such spell to send Taimi to a different forest without her realizing it. That was a possibility.

"To be honest, I got unexpectedly lost," she replied. "And I wasn't really tracking you. I spotted you a mere moment ago, and I wanted to be sure if it was safe to approach and ask for directions."

She then got as confused as him when something strange started to happen. Maybe this was a bad idea after all, she thought. "It's not me." If it wasn't him, then who else was there? Worried, she reached into her bag to grab the light-stone, hoping it would work in this kind of darkness.

As the the male and the other female began their conversation, Celeste felt that her moment to strike would soon arrive. And though her patience was starting to wear thin, there was still a part of her that fought against her natural vampiric instincts. Celeste did not want to cause any further harm than necessary. It was far too late for her to consider any possible alternative options... Animal blood simply wouldn't provide enough necessary nutrients to her kind in the long run, and she had gone long enough without sustenance to take on the risks of switching to a different target. Celeste figured that at this point, she simply had no other choice than to proceed.

From where she hid, she could see the glow of the stone that the girl held. The stone would be enough to illuminate that this wasn't just the ordinary darkness of the night, but a smoky haze of unnatural shadows. The shadows seemed to avoid touching the stone, though still continued to swarm in a thick fog around where they both stood.

"There is no need to be afraid,"
A smooth female voice echoed from the darkness. "I shall only take what I need, and it will be quick, for it is a matter of survival... I do hope that you'll understand..." Her voice purred reassuringly. Each time that she spoke, Celeste shifted her location, moving closer to where he was. The female vampire now stood directly behind him from within the haze of unnatural darkness. She tilted her head closer to his neck, her lips parting to reveal the sharpened points of pearly white fangs as she prepared to bite.

Alexander Jericho

The traveling woman gave a simple, straightforward explanation. It was unexpected in just little effort was put into it. Was she really trying to deceive him with such an answer. His narrowed eyes, before having been distracted by the shift in shadows would scan her for a moment, looking for a sign that she was trying to trick him, or lie to him, or intended to attack. Yet no such signs appeared in the scant few seconds before they were enveloped in shadows.

The traveler reassured him that she was not the cause, and as he himself was left blinded by it, it seemed apparent she was just as confused as him. She drew forth a stone of magical light, the light of which reached him only in trickles through the darkness. Yet it's magical strength wasn't enough to pierce strong to penetrate far, forming but a small bubble of light around here.

Alexander's vision grew darker still beyond his dark vision. The greys shifted, darker and darker, until his sight withdrew, as if he was staring into a black fog. This was magical darkness, more than simply moving shadows, or pushing away light, it actively halted all natural light from entering it, and require light of a magical nature to overcome it. It turned darkness into a substance itself.

Then, though the darkness, Alex heard a silky speak through the fog. The feminine words reassured them, telling them it intended to "take what it needs" for it's own sake. Alex gripped his his sword tightly, turning his head, his elven ears listening as he began to whisper arcane words. He heard almost nothing faint movements so silent, he could hardly make them out under his own breathing and heartbeat.

Then he heard it, the faintest sound of the bend of grass under light feet, directly behind him. Unable to finish his spell before this moment, Alexander turned around quickly through the darkness, drawing his blade quickly, swinging his arm and sword out to strike at whomever had snuck up on him.
This close, he was much more likely to elbow her in the face, but he struck out in his defense. "I'm not afraid...!" He called out through the darkness. "...and I am no one's prey!" A faint glow began to form in his eyes, as his own magics started to take affect.
