A fellow AMGer and my friend, Waffle King Richard, is having surgery. I have reposted his post here:"So on the 14th of December, I get to go into the OR for bariatric surgery. I will be having a robot cut me open and staple my stomach to the shape and size of a hot dog, removing much of it with the hopes that it will allow successful weight loss.
Previous frequent attempts at weight loss ended with the body adjusting the metabolism levels to wear the weight would flatline after a few weeks, only allowing weight gain, but no loss no matter what changes in routine are done.
Heading to the hospital (75 miles away) tomorrow morning for a PETC exam by the anesthesia team in preparation for the surgery, and then a week later, I begin a two week diet of Gatorade at a max of 430 calories a day, in order to shrink the liver so that the robot can move the liver out of the way in surgery.
For those curious, I'm currently hovering at around 490 pounds."If anyone has gone though this or knows anyone who has, please share any tips that might help him with this process.

That sucks! Good luck with your surgery.
My uncle and aunt got bands put around their stomachs in order to lose weight; but kept eating and didn't diet. My uncle had to go in 4 times this last 4 months and have the band removed because it started breaking up and getting into the wall of the stomach lining. It got infected and they had to keep taking the infection out.
So, please be careful!

Thank you kindly everyone for the well wishes. At the hotel right now as I have to be at the hospital for 7am tomorrow.
Have to be up at 5 though for a bottle of Gatorade zero and another shower with surgical body wash.

Hi everyone, here's an update on Richard. Surgery went smoothly. He's now in his room resting. Later today, he will be getting up and will start walking the ward.

Another perk for laparoscopic surgery. Smaller incisions heal quickly. I’m very glad surgery went without a hitch and you’re on the mend Richard. heart

Hi everyone. So the surgery yesterday went well, although I am getting used to the pain factor every few hours (they've given me painkillers to help with any pain). Have six one inch long incisions in a circle around my abdomen but well worth it to help be free from all the excess weight (had lost around 35 pounds in the past two months). Thank you once again for all of the well wishes.
