No one knows where it starts
But most start in child hood
The media we are exposed to
Seems to have an effect
She watched her fellow peers grow up
Their lives seemed so perfect
She and a few others came from broken homes
Only their dreams guiding them
Like a flame it ignited their souls
Either driving them to strive
Or fall like a phoenix from the sky.
She grew up strong, independent,
She arose from the smoke like a goddess being released
So full of life, so much confidence.
Till that day
The day she had received the envelope of fate
She held it tightly, and prepared
The building was beautiful and flashy
It’s lights illuminated the sky as if it were the sun
Inside was very busy
Many coming and going
Slot machines lined the walls and filled the room
Lights and alarms always flashing
But that wasn’t were she was going
She was escorted to the back
Dressed in her best she saw the fellow players
The table an old oak, golden inlay glistened
She stood to the side getting ready
The dealer had a warm smile
His aura very calming
Her hands sweaty, shaking as she handed it over
The envelope.
The dealer grasped it firmly
Ripped the top open
Releasing its contents in his hands
Two red die
The dealer smiled as he handed it to her
She glanced around at the others again
Deep breathe
Grasp the die
She glanced down at the table
Die becoming warm in her hands
As she released them she watched them fly
The die now having the glow
The glow from her soul
Gasps escaped the crowd
Her eyes start to water
The game of life is very fickle
And a man approached
He was more cold, wearing all black
She wiped her tears and took his hand
The path was broken, dirty, and worn
He said his name was Hardship
Taking her to a prison
The walls grey, the floor grey, the uniform grey
She was escorted into her cell
Four grey walls with a small barred window
At first she just laid, lifeless
Feeling like the end was near
She wanted to end it
Till she heard it
Turning to the window
Natural light like a spot light
The bird looked in the cell, at the girl
Like a match lighting a old flame
She smiled
She knew
Everything will be ok
There will be another day
She’ll get another envelope
She’ll soar once again
