I stumbled to the door,
Looking to free,
But when it opened, all I saw was a reflection of me.
This sliver of sanity,
I would keep close,
For if I didn't, I would lose the vanity
Of having at least,
A crippled sanity.
Spots gather to form something.
Why to my surprise, my hallucinations created a person.
But when I get closer, I begin to scream,
As I realized that this must be Annabel Lee.
The scenery changes, to a once sound sea.
But before me, all I see are muddy waters of murder and greed.
Then it stops.
The nightmare begets yet another scene.
A loving family, slaughtered in their home,
I then realize, my perspective is that of a murderer, wanting to roam
For another family, unsuspecting and alone.
But then it turns black,
That's when I snap back to reality,
Where I am cradling a head
With my dwindling
Sliver of sanity.

Description:
There's an Edgar Allen Poe reference, comment if you can tell me what it is.
What happens when you can't differentiate a nightmare, from reality? When the lines are blurred together, to the point of no recognition to you? - Date: 06/15/2011

- I love poetry... and all I have to say is, I really like that poem. It showed the differences of your emotions and displayed a persons true feelings very well

Well,"Annabel Lee" is the title and theme of one of Edgar Allen Poe's poems, but that's all that I can make out of it.
The poem itself also is disturbing and sad in way which is similar to Poe's work. - Report As Spam
