Cue the phantom couple
As they waltz across the courtyard.
Their master looks on
Silently raising a hand to signal
None other than their
Would-be assassin.
Cold eyes hiding silent intent-
Had they really served such a beast?
Their dance continues
Those involved unaware
Of their impending fate.
The assassin is in position
As the couple reach their mark.
Springing from his place,
The assassin drives his blade
Into its target.
But what is this?
The couple disappeared!
Truly, they are the phantom couple.
Were they ever there to begin with?
What of the master?
Were his intentions good?
Perhaps the assassination
Targeted his own flaws.
A house divided cannot stand.
How can the master
Plan his own demise?
Master and self are one in the same.
Neither without the other.
If one must fall,
Then both shall perish.
But is this really the end of the tale?
- Title: Phantom Couple
- Artist: Gazma
- Description: This was fairly confusing even for me after I wrote it. I assume most would have their own interpretation, but, basically, I am the master planning his own demise. Not particularly suicide. More...destroying a part of my psyche...Just more metaphors, right:? ^^;;;

- Without the phantom couple, there would be no master or assassin. I hope it's not the end of the tale so I could make sure what I think of this poem is right... Enigmatic poems are so fun to read.
