I had…
These walls I built around myself;
Secrets filled from shelf to shelf.
Books so easy to be read,
But all would come and fear to tread.
Shackles tied above my feet;
The familiar pain was oh so sweet.
They dragged me down from day to day,
Held this child from love and play.
Color that had left my eyes;
From painful sleeps and last goodbyes.
Feeling gone from all my heart,
A smile that’d been torn apart.
And then…
Someone came into my life;
When it was filled with so much strife.
Made me feel like a normal girl,
Coaxed all my fears to unfurl.
Broke down all my precious walls;
Heard my dark and desperate calls.
Took my hand and pulled me through,
Gave me trust to dive into.
Made me laugh and made me smile;
Something I’d not felt for a while.
Gave a light back to my heart,
And gave me a chance for a new start.
And now…
To this day I thank him for what he’s done;
Made me feel true and the only one.
Helped me chase down my demons,
Brought love to my life without wondering the reasons.
And it’s the best feeling I’ve ever had;
Looking back and being able to feel glad
That I’m alive and living today,
No longer dancing in the fray.
