I would like to think that lesser beings,
Those lesser to me; closer you see?
To the condemnation of living,
The damnation of breathing,
The purgation of seeing,
Are the ones to blame,
The ones to give the name,
Of antagonist.
It is what I would like to think,
That these condemned creatures,
Are inferior to I – lesser, lower, mediocre,
All the names they are given,
Are less significant than I,
However, from where I stand,
Upon this land of freedom,
I can see no difference,
In myself or my neighbor,
I cannot find the difference from wrong, from right,
Whether to follow the gloom of day,
Or the lingering glow of the night.
It is what I would like to think,
That we have the freedom,
The right, the will,
To live, breath, fight,
Offer up insight to the meaning of life,
But the only voices heard,
The only idioms consulted,
Are those of glory; those of fame,
Those that are given the name,
Of protagonist.
We cry for freedom,
We cry in freedom,
Yet we live in a cage of our own well-being,
A cage not much different than Hell,
Not much different than in nightmares,
Where the land of the free is null,
And our lives remain yet dull,
And unfulfilled.
We march in rhythm,
We march in time,
We march to the beat,
To the rhyme presented us.
Vary the beat and one is fated,
Freedom restricted, punishment inflicted.
Who’s who? They call those ones conflicted
With doubt and with rage.
On liberty, on will, on right.
To step up for one’s freedom and fight,
For freedom, liberty, and justice for all,
In the land of the free, they fight to recall,
Their voice in which was taken.
They are the ones they blame,
The ones given the name,
Of antagonist.
