It's... amazing how easy it is to deceive,
Put on the act and instantly they believe
In any disguise,
In any other lie,
But they don't see my lack of shadow.
I can walk up to anyone and not be found,
Wearing all the brands and my face up high and proud,
Jeans and wristbands,
Chains and new Vans,
Slang replaces the multisyllabic words.
Ha-ha! You are all fools!
This black tee, these grey jeans, they're only tools!
These shoes are another disguise,
All lies, lies, and more LIES!
And you never knew.
Humor is my hat, confidence my cloak,
Hatred and pain are words I never spoke
Because if they knew,
Imagine what they'd do,
I'd be hanging upside down on marionette strings.
Oh yes, they'd have those strings in one hand,
They'd laugh as they manipulate, as I follow every command.
They must not know,
My true colors must not show,
So I... throw on a mask.

- Title: Throw on a Mask
- Artist: Poetic Progression
- Description: Every day, before I go to school, I practically become a different person. I throw on clothes I'd never consider, I develop a personality completely unlike my true nature. Because if people know you in this world, you are screwed. BTW, all my poems are designed for presentation on stage. They are not to be read in that standard, boring robotic tone. The tone of this poem? I always present it in a maniacal voice.
