Tell me I lie
Speaking no truth to protect
What isn’t there
Dare me to say what isn’t true
Hide the honest to defend
A precious gift I never received
What I could’ve sworn you gave me
Turned to dust
And the heart I had lent you did the same
So we are equaled

As your eyes widen in surprise
What you’ve done for me
I’ve done the same
And the ashes of my love flew back to me
But the dust of your gift melted to the floor
And I looked up to see your saddened face
And smiled my smile that I give everyone else
Because your gift turned into something else
Something worthless
Just
Like
The one before you
Just
Like
The one that may just come after you
Turn to dust
Turned to dust
