What is death?
The end of life,
the end of existence,
the end of being.
People fear death,
they fear,
loss of feelings,
loss of senses,
the disconnection,
the isolation.
That is the root,
of all fear.
A bear's massive paw,
the snake's venom,
the tiger's razor claw.
They all inflict death.
People fear that ability,
and those who relish in it,
like the insane killer,
who bathes in his victim's blood.
Death looks like nothing but fear,
but what if nothing ever died?
Would there be a need to survive?
Would animals ever evolve?
Would all life be the same?
If people never died,
they could do everything they wanted.
but wouldn't they become bored?
They say they would,
Invent something to do.
But don't ideas run out?
Why does death exist?
Who could answer?
What about that old man,
dying of cancer?
His family visits him,
he tells them,
that he loves them,
and he will miss them,
then his eyes close,
his expression falls into tranquility,
as death's cold embrace,
takes him away.
How could he be so calm?
Had he fathomed,
some transcending truth?
Did he realize that death,
makes life worth living?
Does how fleeting life is,
make it so wonderful?
Did he look back on his life,
and was ready to die,
happily?
