Write us out of the poem. Make us human.
Give back the pieces of our soul taken
from us in the darkness. Take back
the scorching words of truth that
burn us from the inside out. This
is no way to be cleansed. You
were never meant to cleanse us.
Take our names from your mouth,
your mind, your heart, forget us in
all ways. Forget us so you don't soil
those precious lips that rarely deem
to speak to or of us. If you forget,
there's no worry of hurt and
betrayal from either side. If you forget,
we too may forget, move on, live again.
Write us out of the poem. Make us human.
Give back our weary hearts. Or, in my case,
give back the pieces of my shattered,
beaten, stepped on, broken heart.
Write me out of the poem that is you
so that I may, once and for all,
and with no regrets, be reborn
to live again. Or, so that I may die,
swiftly, to never know the pain of living without you.

Description:
Written a few years back at a writing workshop in an exercise where we had to pick our favorite line in a poem. The line I chose is the first one, and it originates from Eavan Boland's "What Language Did".

- I think I can relate on how you wrote it. I also did a writing workshop from 5th grade to high school. Great rendition!
