- November has come again, and this is the month of remembrance. A time to reflect on our History as a people and as a species. What is focused on primarily in this month, is remembering those who fought in the Two World Wars, believing in a better future for each and every one of us. Lest we also not forget that it is also a time where we remember all those who were courageous enough to fight valiantly and were willing to give their lives for what they believed was a better future. This fight can be fought in many different ways. From mental, emotional, situational, and nuanced, this fight is fought many times throughout each person's life. Sometimes we fight it every day. Some people fight more than others. It is important that we not only reflect on the values we fight for, but also the who, what, where, when, why, and how we fight for them. Develop a perspective on your own values, and the way you view yourself based on them. Then, look at other people's values, and reflect on your own perspective on their values, and think of how they might see their own values. Maybe their perspectives are just unknown to you, but you may still be curious about how they think. Maybe it's too personal for them to ever share, and that needs to be respected. Regardless, examining these values and perspectives can broaden our understandings of “good” and “bad”, leading to a world where someone's perspective seeming different or strange compared to our own does not lead to them being viewed as “bad” or “evil”, and leads to better understanding, and a safer world. Through practising this simple mental exercise, you can be a part of the change that makes that better, and all you did was a little reading and reflection.
