I was on the beach. The tide slowly engulfed my bare feet, as if it was trying to urge me into the water. I saw a man... he had rough skin and blue eyes with a hint of purple and green. He had coarse, long raven-black hair that moved like the waves. As he came closer to me, his face showed to be distressed. The man looked into my eyes, and I didn't quite know his emotion. This is unusual for me. I usually can read emotion with ease! A little bit of sorrow, a bit of encouragement, a dash of longing...
"Angelica, I.... I'm sorry..." he stuttered hastily. He seemed confused. Somehow I knew...
"Father..." I didn't know what I was saying. My father had drowned long ago!
I woke with a start. I was in my beach cabin with my brother, still asleep. The dreams, the sudden dreams I have, are normal. At least my brother tells me that. His name is Simon. Simon has short medium-length blond hair that is very thick. He has ripped muscles. He works out every day and he’s tattooed with three images.
The first is a tattoo of a skull. This one has been washed away, bruised, torn and such. Simon told me that he got this one in the color pink when he was 18, and that he did not want it after he got it. From that day forth, he burns his skin there, scratches it off, and does anything to try to make it go away. The tattoo was soaked in so much that it was even visible above all the damage. The deep red skull lives on, never fading. I hear my brother at night, when he tries to get it off. He moans and wails for it to leave. It grows a deeper red every day.
The second image is of a dove. It isn’t that detailed, just a simple white dove in flight across Simon’s arm. He got this one when I was 5, I remember. I was kicking my legs impatiently in the waiting room while I waited for the tattoo artist to finish up. The lady at the front desk seemed not to be much of a tattoo person. The tattoo parlor didn’t look like much of a tattoo parlor at all. It looked like a doctors office. The name of the tattoo parlor looked weird… my memories are a little hazy… I think it looked like this:
Νεκρός Και Ζώντας
Μόνιμη Τατουάζ
The third is unknown. Simon tells me I can’t see it, even if I say please. I know where it is though. Lower back, centered perfectly. I know that because he always wears a bandage on that spot. He has had no injury there and he hasn’t ever taken the bandage off. He has had this one since, well, forever I guess. I don’t know if this one was legal because he is fifteen years older than me. He had it 10+ years before I was born.
