Kindergarten to Grade 1
I was a daredevil back then, or rather, I still am a daredevil, for I’ve been doing rather risky stuff for a lifetime now. One of these “risky things” is this story right here.
They say that the average dog has the intelligence of a two year old. At the time, I guess I was dumber than a dog, for a dog wouldn’t replicate a really dumb feat, even if they knew they would live to tell the tale, like me. Anyways, my mom and dad were going for a dinner in a local diner, and they had hired a baby-sitter. This baby-sitter was obviously as dumb as me back then, and if not, even dumber, for she was upstairs fixing a sandwich or watching TV or something, while we were trying to see who could jump the farthest length. Then my oldest brother had a very bright idea. He said, “Hey, maybe if we tried jumping down the stairs, we’d get more distance.” We all agreed. We put an old mattress, at the bottom of the stairs, and started to see how far we could jump down. My oldest brother was in the lead by 5 stairs, and I decided that I wouldn’t leave the basement until I beat that record. Actually, I did. …but only to get a running start. I started down the hallway, and sprinted as fast as I could. Then, as my right foot touched down (the last step I would make with that foot in a long time), I took off. For a full two seconds, I was in the air, pretending I was flying. But I guess my wings snapped off, and I started to fall. I hit the mattress feet first, and sprained my ankle. Not twisted, but sprained. I was rolling on the ground in pain until my parents got back, because the babysitter had called them. I went to a clinic, and they gave my a cast to wear. And the moral of the story is: Never jump down your 13-step stairway for the glory, for there will be more gore than glory.
