Jesus was walking along with his 12 disciples. One of their names was James. He was not the sharpest butterknife on bread day, but he loved Jesus.
Now, why did these people follow such a strange man who claimed to be the Savior? It was this trust that was the strongest known to man. Would you follow, perhaps, a poor man off the streets with a scraggly beard and the most disgusting odor, if he asked you to? Would you folow this poor, seemingly dillusional man?
Alright, back to the point. James was walking aside Jesus. when they came to a point, Jesus said, "Pick up a stone and carry it with you." James thought he was being smart and picked up a little stone. That way, he wouldn't have to carry much. Then, a little further down the road Jesus proclaimed, "Sit down, it is time to eat." So they sat. Jesus turned their stones into bread. "Eat." He said. And they ate. Poor James, all he had was a crumb to eat.
By the time they stopped again, James was really hungry. "Pick up another stone." Jesus declared, gesturing to the boulders. James thought he was catching onto this. So, he picked a huge boulder.
Again, when they stopped again, he was at loss. "We will sleep now. These stones will be your pillows." Then Jesus sat down on the earth. "Um, Rabbi, I thought you were going to provide for me!" James cried out. "I was providing for you, I gave you food and a place to rest your head." Jesus replied. "But what about the food?" He gestured to his growling stomach. "I only got a crumb!" "AND!" James continued. "I had to carry this big huge boulder many a mile and what I get is THIS?!" He paused. His stomach growled loudly. Slowly, Jesus got up. He put his hand on James' shoulder. "Who where you carring the rocks for, my dear James?"
The moral of this story if you don't do everything for Jesus, it isn't worth it.
