Steps
1. Control your walk. You should be walking in a crouched position, absorbing the weight of your body with your knees. You should be wearing soft shoes with a light rubber coating on the bottom, depending on the surface upon which you're walking. It all depends on the situation:
* If you're in a house - Its best to use socks, as they are soft and they are comfortably fitting.
* If you are changing from, concrete to grass for example, you could make a sudden rustling sound. The best thing to do instead would be to actually find the gaps in the grass and stand on them, if you can't do that, i suggest rolling, just take a nose dive right in there, why not?
* If you're in a place with lots of grass - Its best to use socks or bare feet in these places. If you prefer water-shoes. Like in the house, the socks and/or skin of your bare feet help the impact from your foot to the ground, to be dampened. If you're worried about wet feet you can use water-shoes, but with these you must be extra careful! If they are soaked they can emit a "squish" type sound as your foot hits the ground.
* If you're in a rocky place (pebbles, gravel, etc.) - You must use either socks or bare feet. NO SHOES! Soft socks and bare feet cushion the impact, but shoes will push the stones down and out, making the sound of rocks moving. When walking on this type of ground, you must absorb the impact with your knees, which should be bent. Tread lightly!
* If you're in a place with carpet or any material like that- its necessary to use bare feet. because of the carpet, any stepping will cause the carpet to make noise itself, and no matter what, you will make noise. In this environment it is best to just over-exaggerate your movements and move even slower. it can also be good to find a noise to cover yours such as a refrigerator's hum.
2. For walking in a mixed environment sad E.g. a suburban street with a road, gravel, and grass) Wear hard-sole shoes, but the soles must also be flexible. Be careful not to walk flat-footed with these shoes. Always land your foot on the ball of your heel, and put the rest of the foot down with a diagonal rolling motion.
3. Control your breathing. To do this, just breathe slowly and steadily. If you're out of breath, try making your throat as wide as possible while remaining comfortable. It may sound weird, but it works. Practice makes perfect. There are many reasons for controlling your breathing:
* If you're sneaking for the first time, you may be scared about getting caught, which tempts you to breathe harder. If you are scared and panicking, try imagining that you're on a beach on a nice, warm, sunny day. This should calm you, and you can continue doing what you were doing.
* If the unexpected happens. If you are sneaking, eventually something will startle you, perhaps a person you're near walking toward you. You may be only a foot from him, but he can't see you.
4. Don't make fast movements. Slow steady movements are harder for others to spot.
5. Getting caught: If you are sneaking in a yard belonging to someone you do not know and someone yells at you, don't panic. It is a natural instinct to freeze in panic and breathe heavily, tiring you out. To overcome this, just make up an exercise you can use to make you want to run instead of breathe heavily. If you need to escape, you can easily run without getting tired out from panicking.
6. Figure out your objective. If you are trying to spy on someone, you want to observe them and not get too close to them. If your objective is to get close to somebody, I don't suggest listening to your mp3 player while doing it.
7. Consider your stealth gear. For sneaking around at night, wear dark, tight clothing. If you need to climb trees, bring a grappling hook with a rope. If you need to scale a wall, use water-shoes and leather gloves.
8. Use common sense. Don't use these guidelines to burglarize a home. If you're doing something illegal, you will get caught. Remember that movies are fiction, and thieves on television never get caught because the script was written that way.
9. Realize that it's all about the fun and the thrill. The thrill is to go somewhere you do not belong just because you could, not to steal or vandalize but to experience the excitement of knowing you could get caught at any moment. This may seem odd, but it is true to many people who take part in "Urban Adventuring." And if you can't get out at night for the extreme experience, free running is the thing for you
Tips
* Bring a buddy -- two heads are better than one. Be careful who you choose.
* If you get caught by your parents or friends, have an excuse ready. If you get caught by the cops, be prepared to take a ride in a police cruiser.
* Live the thrill now, talk it off later.
* If you are wearing sneakers or any type of hard footwear, walk on the outside edges of your feet. This is what soldiers in combat boots will do!
* If in bare feet, walk on the balls of your feet.
* If wearing socks walk flat footed.
* Only run when necessary, and even then only to a safer spot.
* When in the house, especially on stairs, walk on the edge of the floor as it is less creaky.
* Holding your breath is good to hear better, but be careful not to exhale too quickly.
* Try to wear tight clothing, and if you don't have any, it's best to wear wool clothing.
* Try to walk around, moving around your ankle to make sure to get any cracks out of you foot before sneaking around. Cracks can be give-away noises.
* Always be mindful of any shadow or reflection you might make. This could very well give you away.
* Don't wear all black unless you're highly skilled in stealth.
* Wear matte colors, use proper camouflage (black against moonlight is actually a giveaway, use dark blue, for example), keep jingles tied down flat, and use ambient sounds (a recording of a common local animal's noisemaking can help assuage a curious person.)
* Always stay near a place you can jump behind and hide.
* Know where all the creaky parts (If you're in a house) are on the floor. If you really are not trying to get caught try crawling to absorb the impact of the grass or whatever you pick and they wont hear you.
* Try using camouflage and some light and dark green make up to hide your face and a army hat if you do not own a hat color your hair too
* When going through a door, inside or out, turn the knob slowly while lifting the door as much as possible. This will take strain off off the hinges and prevent the door from squeaking.
Warnings
* Remember that stalking, acting as a peeping tom, and trespassing are all illegal activities in most areas. It's much more fun (and more permissible) to sneak around in your own backyard.
* Sneak at your own risk.
* Be prepared to face consequences if you're caught and do not have a story.
* Don't use these to break laws.
