The Worst Experience Of My Life

Sunday, the 22 of September I heard a cry. My father and I were watching T.V. when we heard fighting this was around 10:00 p.m. not five minutes later we hear loud meowing like the animal was in pain and a lot of it. So my dad got up to look for the source of the meowing I finally decided to help. My dad when out back to look so I thought I would go to the front door at first I didn’t see anything because I wasn’t looking off to the side. I heard the pained meow again and averted my eyes to my right and down then I saw something that sent me into shock. I saw my brother’s cat porthos he meowed again and tried to move I noticed he wasn’t moving his back legs which got me out of my shock but sent me into hysterics I picked him up and took him in the house while yelling for dad. Dad came in from the backyard and asked me what was wrong I told him it was porthos that was meowing and the fact that he couldn’t move his back legs crying the whole time wasn’t helping.

He told me to set him down so I did then he then tried to stand porthos up but porthos just fell over and then dad started to go into hysterics too he walked into the bathroom to get tissue for himself and kept asking me to stop crying and that porthos would be ok. Then dad called his friend Albert over to come take a look at porthos because we didn’t know what to do that’s how bad we were freaking out. Albert came down two minutes later and checked porthos out. He said that he might have a broken leg. He couldn’t tell there were no really bad wounds to tell. The only reason he thought he had broken his leg was because porthos would meow in pain when Albert tried to move his leg. Dad decided to call mom so we could take porthos to the vet. I was trying no to cry this whole time because crying would just upset porthos more. Mom came home around 11:00 p.m. then Albert and dad tried to move porthos into a flat box with a towel in it we finally got him in the car on the ride dad was trying to keep porthos calm so mom turned up the radio to calm porthos down. Porthos likes love songs so it calmed him down and he fell asleep.

We finally got to the Redwood Veterinary Clinic was were we took out other cat Sidney who had died of old age awhile back but that’s a whole different story. While in the waiting room porthos started to purr which I thought was odd because at the time I didn’t know that purring was a defense system for a cat. We finally got to see a doctor and she took x-rays of porthos she told us the problem was that porthos had dislocated his hip and in his other leg shattered his kneecap. She said that she would talk to a DVM named Richard Hoskins he was the morning doctor. She told us that she wouldn’t charge us to keep him over night which I thought was nice so we went home. I wasn’t able to sleep for a good 7 hours the next day Porthos was in surgery to rewire his knee back together. The thing I learned from this experience was that porthos is a very strong cat and if I were in his place I would of never been able to move from were I was we still never found out what happened to him. He must have crawled from were ever he was I’ve found a new respect for that cat.
