What Makes Life Interesting
Uniqueness identifies who we are. We all have our own opinions, we all learn, act, speak, and look differently. I personally love being an individual who will always be “outside the norm.” Differences are the number one thing that makes life interesting, and I’ve come to accept that.
I’ve been made fun of countless times because I was different than someone else. For example, in middle school I started wearing more formal clothes to school: button down shirts, long socks, black slip-on shoes and khaki paints. For about a month I had to deal with people asking me, “Why are you so dressed up?” I always responded, “Because I feel like it.” While they didn’t like that response, I think my trend caught on after a while.
I don’t know why but at one point in my life I was seeing a physiologist. I once told him I was being made fun of in class for being different. He said while it was wrong, the students who did it did have a point. I did act differently than most other kids my age at that time. So what? I didn’t care and neither did my 4th grade teacher because she thought it made class more interesting for the other students.
It was then that I learned people learn differently too. Some people can write something down and remember it forever, whereas others need to see or interact to learn. This prompted my 4th grade teacher to mix up the way lessons were taught, making them interesting for everyone. I thank my classmates for their differences because class wouldn’t have been nearly the same as it was.
I still learn, look, speak and act differently than some of the other students in my school. But you know what? I finally get recognized in a good way for being different. People are finally starting to admit that my differences make class more exciting, and they’ve grown up about it. While being part of a group is quite the experience, don’t give up your individuality. Make life interesting by being unique.

Description:
This was done earlier on in the year and while I strongly believe it it one of the best pieces I've ever written, I'll admit there is room to improve. But isn't there room to improve everything?
Enjoy it, and I welcome all feedback, both positive and negative. Feedback is the only way to get better ;) - Date: 07/15/2008
