We first met on the first day of our high school lives. We had the same first period together, the same second period together, the same third period together, in fact we had all the same classes together, and because of our last names (his name was right below mine) we sat next to each other in every single one of those classes. Back then my eye sight was horrible, and my dad didn’t have the time to buy me a pair of glasses, so I had to rely on him for everything our teacher wrote on the board and over time the two of us became great friends.
As the year passed the two of us became good friends and I, being me, started to notice the strange things he did. Like how he always stuck to the edges when walking across campus, or how he never eat lunch at school, or how he skipped out on all of the field trips we were allowed to go on, how amazingly good he was at playing the piano (then again everyone in our band class noticed this). Instead of keeping quiet about these little discoveries like most people would I pointed them out and then embarrassed him by coming up with nick names like ‘the hermit who shall play beautiful music’ (this one was because he skipped out on all field trips, played the piano really well, and had like five cats) or ‘anorexic’ (because he never ate anything at school and was supper skinny), he got really mad at me for calling him that.
He became really well liked by everyone around him and was often gone to when someone needed help with their homework (cause Mr. I-can-play-the-piano-really-well-and-dose-community-service-every-week was also a straight A student) or projects. He wasn’t a people person, but surprisingly I think he has more friends than I do! Well I guess all of this doesn’t really matter, what really does was the fact that I asked him for his phone number so I could call him for help if I ever got confused about my homework (since we had all the same classes together and I’m not a straight A student, if anything I’m a straight C student) and then my dad found it.
You see what happened was that I wrote his phone number on an index card and left it on the table in my living room. Sometime over summer break that index card got swept off the table, and onto the floor, and then forgotten about, until my dad picked it up. You see we were getting ready to go to the school to pick up our new schedule when my dad bends done and picks up this index card, he looks at it before asking.
“Who’s this?” I and my brother and sister look up confused and my dad read out loud.
“It s says Alika Phone Number.” I look up and I smile stupidly before saying.
“That’s mine.” My dad does the whole creepy ‘I’m smiling but I’m not really happy’ thing dads do when they find out their ‘little girl’ have a boy phone number.
“Who Alika?” My dad asked I have no clue what’s going on an answer anyway.
“He’s my friend; he helps me with my homework.” He gave me this huge grin and started tearing the index card apart and I stared at him in shock.
“Dad! That’s Alika phone number!” I yelled shocked and my dad just smiles at me.
“I know you’re boyfriend.” At this point my sisters are cracking up and my brother is like smirking at me.
"He's not my boyfriend!" I yell at him and my dad just smiles at me.
"But he could be." My dad tells me and keeps on ripping up the index card, then my sister adds fuel to the fire and tells my dad.
“He bought her lunch once.” And my dad start tearing it up even faster, when he’s done all of us get into the car and head to the school and I’m arguing with my dad about Alika phone number and I sort of just yell at him.
“Watch! I bet karma going to bite you in the butt and the first person we see when we get to the school is going to be Alika!” My dad doesn’t care and we pull up into the school parking lot and head to the cafeteria, where we have to go to pick up our schedule. And Lo and Behold! They first person we see, standing right outside the cafeteria, is Alika!!! I smile and go right up to him before looking at my dad and say.
“Dad, meet Alika. My friend who’s phone number you just tore up!” Yeah, Alika was confused as hell and my siblings were cracking up.
