Chapter 2
ONE MONTH LATER.
Summer stood in front of the mirror, gawking at the sight of her reflection. “Stupid hair,” she mumbled. She traced her finger tips down her thin black hair, resting them on the tips of her ashen skin. Picking up the eye liner in one hand, she drew massive dark lines beneath her blue-grey eyes. Looking down at her black tee, she wiped any unnecessary fur from her cat, Yoda, who sheds like crazy. Along with checking her dark grey skinny jeans, and putting on her white belt too complete her outfit. She breathed calmly, facing the mirror once more. This time, she stood motionless.
The light didn’t make that annoying buzzing noise like it usually did. The television wasn’t giving off any static. There was not even a peep nor sound from the children playing outside. Everything became eerie for a few seconds. Yet to her, it was peaceful for once. Her mind wandered into blissful memories as her lips curled into a tiny smile. She remembered her and her once beloved, looking into the night sky, feeling the cool air brush against her cheek as the warmth of his hand slowly caressed her shivering sides. Her body was stiff, but her eyes ached with the threat of tears.
The light began to flicker once or twice before turning completely off. Summer snapped back into reality, letting her phone collapse from her hands. The room was flourished in darkness. “Must’ve been a black out.” Summer looked up to find in her surprise, something run across the room. Startled, she got up and looked around the room. “I-Is someone there?” There was nothing but dead silence. “Must’ve been Yoda,” she breathed calmly as she bent over to retrieve her phone.
She noticed a black figure hovering over her in the mirror. Summer panicked and jumped up, swinging her phone as she stood into a battle stance. “Who are you? I.. I have a weapon, and I’m not afraid to use it,” she looked down at her beaten up phone, “ Okay… That may not be the best of ideas,” she mumbled to herself. She gazed at the mirror once more. There it was. Standing behind her. Mocking her. She turned her head again. Nothing was there. She rubbed her eyes. Am I imagining this? She pondered.
The figure’s face was darkened, but she knew it stared back at her gaze. His lips curled into a smile. What is this thing? Her mind told her to run, but her body stood still. “J-Jake?” tears rolled down her cheek. “Is that you?” No reply.
He slowly reached his hands onto the outskirts of the mirror until the tips of his fingers broke through, gliding their way towards Summer herself. Summer wrapped her arms around her body, keeping her eyes fiercely shut as her body shook with freight. She could feel its cold finger tips intrude on her skin lightly.
The door quickly flung open. “Hey girl!” Roxy came barging in with a flash light in one hand and a plastic bag in another. Summer’s eyes slowly opened only to find that the creepy shadow was no longer standing there. “Man, I hate black outs, don’t you?” she flipped the switch on. “Y-Yeah..” Summer sobbed quietly. Roxy blinked, “Are you crying?” she tilted her head. What am I suppose to tell her? Some weird, bizarre monster came out of my mirror and tried to attack me? Yeah, somehow I doubt she’ll believe that. Guess it would be better to keep to myself for the time being.
Summer rubbed her eyes with her forearm. “Of course not!” her lips pursed, “I was just doing my make up, but then you barge in like an idiot and I poked my eye out with eye liner. That’s all,” she smiled cheerfully. “And I’m the idiot?” Roxy laughed. “Yes,” she patted the top of Roxy’s head, “It’s good to see that you realize that now. Maybe there’s still hope for you,” Summer smirked. Roxy punched her arm. “Ouch,” she pouted, “I was joking.” Roxy’s arm fell flat, “Yeah, yeah. It’s whatever. Anyways, is your uncle still up?” Summer was shaking her head no, “Nah. He’s been passed out since seven. Why..? Are we going somewhere?” Roxy did that devilish smile of hers whenever she has some sort of stupid plan. Oh no. this isn’t going to be fun. Better advise a plan, Summer thought.
Summer stretched her arms and yawned, “Umm.. On second thought, I think I’ll just mosey on up to be-” Roxy grabbed her arm and dragged her downstairs. “Come on!: she said with an intense smile. Summer rolled her eyes, She knew she didn’t have much of a choice now.
They were in front of the door. Roxy slowly turned the knob, and opened it quietly as if she was in some spy movie. Summer looked down at Roxy’s hand. “Hey Roxy-kins?” that was her little nickname for her. “Yeah?” “What’s inside the bag?” Summer tilted her head. Roxy simply smiled and replied, “That’s a surprise.”
