City of the Clouds
Written by: I’m no gonna give you my name!
CHAPTER ONE: Lost Ruins
It was a cloudy day in the city of Alundra, named after the famous sky city Alundra that crashed from the skies during a demon attack. I was getting pulled by my little brother Ryan through the streets with an excited “WOW sis did you see what happened” and a “Hey let check that out” once every while. We walked until we reached the very end of the town and into the ruins of the cloud city which crashed down 69 years ago. “Oh WOW this is my first time here I never knew ruins could be so exciting!!!” Ryan would say every time we walked past a destroyed house or a giant pillar. We walked towards the edge where the temple of the cloud city once stood. Walking past the alter I suddenly sensed a wave of dizziness and started staggering, Ryan must have noticed because he said worried “umm sis are you okay…” Every sound sounded like it was coming from a mile away then my eye sight blurred and everything went black.
I had a dream an angel was talking to me.
“How do you feel Safira?” The angel asked in its calm voice.
“I’m okay but where am I?”
“I’m sending a message to you by telepathy.”
“So this is just a dream? Wait did I faint?”
“Everyone has a side-effect the first time.”
“Why am I here, what do you want?”
“You are to restore order to the world.”
“The wo--
Before I had time to react the image flickered and disappeared, and I was back home lying on my bed besides me was my brother Ryan.
CHAPTER TWO: Attacked
“Sis calm down everything is alright; you fainted in the ruins but a passing salesman helped carry you back.” My brother assured me.
“Ahh I feel like I’ve being sleeping for days.” I said while stretching my back.
“You have being sleeping for days, weeks actually.” A short little man in a lab coat told me.
“Sorry for my rude manors I’m Dr. Syreilla.” He said making a slight bow.
“We called him in as soon as we could” Ryan explained
“Thanks you doctor for saving me life I guess” I mumbled the words barely coming out of my mouth.
“You should get some rest before doing much and you’re perfectly fine” The doctor said with a smirk and walked out.
“Are you okay?” Ryan asked this time not so calmly.
“Besides being very hungry and thirsty fine, and by the way what happened in the ruins?” I asked wondering why would I just faint on the spot.
“Don’t you remember we were taking a walk through the ruins then—
Ryan never got to finish because suddenly a dark shadow swept the room and landed on the bed. The shadow started spinning and out leapt a red demon! My brother screamed for help and I felt a wave of uneasiness swept across me suddenly my fingers burned, I pointed them towards the demon and to my amazement a shot of white light emerged catching the demon off guard and disintegrating the evil creature after that I felt the same rush of dizziness sweep over me and my eye sight went black.
I dreamed I was back with the angel in a parallel universe.
“Safira you shouldn’t risk using magic at such a young age.” The angel said in a calm tone.
“Sorry, I don’t know how it happened, I felt my fingers burning and then, it just sort of happened.” I explained trying to make myself sound innocent.
“Enough talk about that, I need to get you ready for your eighteenth birthday.”
“Ready?” I asked sensing it wasn’t a good thing
“Something terrible is to come and you are the only one who could prevent it”
As the word cam out I became frozen in thought, something terrible? Like what?
“You’re mind is probably racing my dear. Good bye for now we will meet again.”
As the last words came out the image shimmered and finally disappeared. I was suddenly back in my room the pile of ash from the demon still there and my brother staring wide eyed at me.
CHAPTER THREE: The Prophecy
It has been 5-years since the demon attack but the memory still haunts the mind. “This isn’t good” I kept muttering to myself sitting in bed. Soon it would be my eighteenth birthday and though it would be a big party, what the angel said made me wish it would never come. That very night my dreams came back, there I was with the angel in our own universe.
“Tomorrow would be the day.” The angel started.
“I hope you are ready for what is to come, and to discover you’re true fate.” The angel continued this time not as cheerful.
“Yes, I know but I have a question; does it have anything to do with the cloud city Alundra?” I asked.
“That is a long story I wouldn’t be able to keep our telepathy link on for long, but I must tell you this, go to the gypsy on the streets tomorrow after noon and your fate shall be revealed.” The last words barely squeezed through as I woke up in my bed.
Noon soon came and I was about to sneak out when my brother caught me getting my coat on. “Safira where do you think are you going?”
I sighed and explained all my dreams and everything that has happened. Ryan just nodded like he understood then muttered “I’ll come with you.”
It wasn’t a long walk to the gypsy’s tent but with every step I took my legs felt more and more like lead. We pulled aside the flaps and walked in, the withered women was sitting on a stool, and when she saw us she gestured for us to sit down and started staring through the crystal ball.
Suddenly the room went black then I shimmering image appeared, it was the angel! After standing a while she began to speak.
You shall seek the legendary sword.
Achieve the goals of many lords.
One shall disappear by a parent’s hand.
Through what only the heat calls land.
The journey back shall take you to the valley of life.
Fulfill your destiny with death.
“That helps a lot” Ryan said between bites of pizza. We’ve decided to try to make out (or at least the best of it) what the prophecies means.
“Prophecies are never what they seem, they’re always hard to infer.” I wondered aloud.
“First thing’s first, we need to seek a legendary sword.” Ryan stated again.
“Wow, wow, wow we as in not me but us??? What makes you think you’re coming with me?” I began to argue.
“Well the glory and wealth part sounds promising—
“Well I guess part with death sounds promising, too”
“Yeah we’ll okay you got me.” Ryan said holding his hands up.
“One thing is clear we need more people and 1 is not making it back…” I paused a while than whispered “Alive”.
CHAPTER FOUR: First Dawn
That night both of us had trouble getting asleep the sky was crowded with unusual dark storm clouds, and by unusual I mean super black. It was really uncomfortable the air was thin like it was getting sucked up by the clouds. Suddenly through the cold of the night a black shadow moved, blasted through the night landing out of sight behind the town walls. A shudder ran up my whole body, I went down stairs and looked around everyone was asleep so I went back and drifted away. The next morning I woke up to the sound of chatting from outside the house, I quickly got dressed and rushed out to join the commotion. After a while I spotted Ryan pushing his way out of the crowd.
“Ryan what’s this about?????” I asked as soon as we were within talking range.
“Oh some scout walked a few miles and returned with news of a demon camp ground outside.” Ryan muttered.
“ Did you get a good look of that flyer? ” I asked back.
“Yeah it says to stay in boundaries of the wall and be careful if you have to go out” Ryan explained.
“So that’s what our journey’s going to be about.” I said calmly.
“Yeah but I wonder how it’s going to…. Just then I met Ryan’s eyes he was starring at an old stable, not just any old stable. The hay was pure black and looking at it made you want to run away.
“Umm... Ah sis” Ryan muttered starting to shake.
Than the hay flickered making a thundering sound and started to rift. Everything swirled and started to look more and more like a black hole. Everyone’s gaze was fixed upon the hay, the guards wasted no time surrounding it with they’re weapons drawn. Then a ball shot out of the portal, rolled around and let out a thick cloud of gas. As it cleared out I found myself starring at a lesser demon, it was holding a giant, viscously carved scimitar in one hand. The cloud disappeared revealing an army of demons, all lesser and dressed in full battle armor, holding maces and swords.
The guards didn’t waste any time, the first one attempted to jab his spear through a gap in the demon’s armor just to have him sent flying by a swing of the demon’s arms. The other guards charged some hitting some getting batted by the demons. Suddenly everything around me seemed darker, my fingers started to burn, everything swirled I found I lost control of my body as if someone else was controlling it. I could still see but what I saw made no sense, I was surrounded by blinding light the earth trembled, the sea swung, the air tightened and blinding light shot forth! Then everything darkened leaving only a slight memory.
CHAPTER FIVE: The Past Revealed
There she was, the angel standing not 1 meter away from me.
“So Safira you survived the first demon attack?” The angel began in her heavenly voice.
“Do I have to faint every time to talk with you?????” I asked back.
“No, but I rather enjoy that part” The angel said with a chuckle.
“Okay what do I have to do now?” I asked.
“Travel the world, seek the sword, save the world” The angel said gesturing with her hands.
Suddenly we weren’t standing on clouds anymore; below me was the ancient cloud city of Alundra. People were panicking, screaming, running in all directions. I was about to as when I caught sight of a few sky guards trying desperately to slow a wave of black demon from raging from the town, but they were outnumbered 1000 to 1.
“Is that how the city fell?” I asked suddenly getting a surge of memories, terrifying memories about despair and the sight of falling out of the sky.
“Ahhhhhhhhhh” I screamed suddenly falling through the clouds.
“Safira your safe open your eyes.” The angel said still calmly.
It took me a while to realize my eyes were closed then I slowly opened them, there was the angel standing peacefully on our little cloud.
“What just happened?” I asked catching my breath.
“Memories can be painful, but when the time comes you might need them.”
“What… What do you mean? Those were my memories?”
“Yes, I’m afraid I’m going to have to tell your past.”
“My past, you mean like from my childhood?”
“No, you’re past the life you had on Alundra.”
“My past on Alundra but I never been there.”
“You are a memory of the past a spirit of a girl who died during the attack.”
“What but that can’t be?”
“When help is desperately needed the angel may call upon one from the past to fulfill a deed.”
“So I’m not real just a spirit? What well happen when the deed is done?”
“You will disappear.”
“So what do I gain out of this?”
“Knowing that you helped restore order to the world should be a glorious prize”
“I need time to think… Before I had time to think, everything shimmered and I was back on land in a tent…
CHAPTER SIX: Despair
My brother was besides me standing with a man in full battle armor.
“I’m Lucress the captain of the guards.” He said offering me his hand. I shock it and sat up.
“We would like to offer you a choice to join the army and serve your country; we would be honored to have you.” He said trying to make a smile.
“I don’t think I’d fit really well in the army” I answered.
“Please, think of it as a deed to your country.” Lucress said trying to persuade me.
“I have to do something else but… I stopped mid-sentence as swords clinged in the distance.
“Oh no, they’re back.” Lucress said drawing his sword.
Before he had time to leave the tent everything froze no froze literally, everything was stuck in place the only thing that worked was your brain. As I watched immobile smoke rose from the ground covering all over Ryan, than within a blink of an eye he was gone!
“Haha you petty fools you shall die by the demon army.!” a voice boomed out of the fog. Then everything cleared up and Ryan was gone.
“RYAN!!! RYAN!!! ARE YOU HERE???” I shouted in search for him almost crying.
“Safira he’s gone” Lucress tried to calm me.
“NO, NO” I yelled
So far that where I'm so check back again sometime.
