Chapter 1: What am I running from? That’s for you to decide, now isn’t it?
I didn’t mean it… I didn’t mean too. Were basically the last words I had murmured out to my best friend. But the next time we met, it isn’t going to be a friendly meeting.
Swift as lightning, but soft as a leaf drifting down from a tree landing on the ground, was what I was doing or one of the many things I could do. When I mean many things, I certainly mean MANY things.
My rhythmic footsteps sounding like a fast heartbeat, along the path of the faded trail to a hideout. Leaping into the air then falling back onto the solid ground then again, leaping into the air. A never ending process.
My breathing was becoming pretty jagged. I swallowed, only making my throat hoarser and dry then it already was.
Being half-crazed yet sane at the same time was something I could do at the same time. My eyes flickering and drifting left to right around in their sockets, looking around to see if anyone or anything was hanging around.
Keeping my mind clear and alert, for just in case anything might happen to me or if I might do something to them. Either way, we both need to stay away from each other so I’m doing a favor for them by leaving them. Though they kind of have taken my leaving the wrong way and well… They apparently think that I was going to come back and face them with an army of my own. What a laugh.
As if I could do that and influence some mere humans to help me out. But… why was I the one that was made into a weapon, a weapon against what I once was? What could I possibly have done in my past? My past human life…?
Irritated, I pushed out the questions lingering around my head.
Why… why… WHY! The pain, the agony, the suffering that they piled on top of me and the torture I’ve been through… why must it all happen to me? And still, why me, only me?
I began to slow down, only to force myself to move faster.
Faster… Faster… They’ll catch me… I urged, trying to make any groaning noise. For I’ve been running endlessly in the middle of absolutely nowhere for the past 36 hours.
No sleep. But of course for what I am, I certainly didn’t need any sleep at all.
Every time I was sure to pass a tree, I was sure enough to duck under the tree branches, being careful to not break any branches for that will only bring total chaos for me. It wasn’t hard knowing where the trees were, saying I was in a forest, and well I’m PRETTY sure that there are plenty of trees in a forest. Maybe that’s why a forest is called a forest. Hmm…
For if I shall break a branch or misplace a leaf of a tree. They will surely fine me. And the end of me. Such a lovely ending for me, isn’t it?
I know, I know. You people would ACTUALLY want me to survive to know who or what is hunting me down. Right?
But of course, if you don’t care either way…. Then why are you taking the time to know about my past? Go away! This isn’t something you should know! But of course… I am pretty ‘special’…. So you just might want to stick around till the end.
…Whenever the ‘end’ is.
Certainly the ‘end’ is usually not ‘the end’, if you understand what I’m talking about. When you die… it’s not the ‘end’. Instead you just might have an afterlife.
You would either become a spirit, such as a ghost or such. Or on rare occasion you could become a demon if infected. Or even be infected and cursed for life to become a vampire or werewolves. So what does ‘the end’ truly mean? Well. Nobody knows, not even nobody.
I skidded to a stop, breathing in and out heavily. My hair plastered with sweat. For if I was a human right now, I wouldn’t be able to run for about 36 hours or more nonstop in a state of being or going mad. Now that was something tiring, even for what I was.
My sleeve wiped across my forehead, stopping the sweat from trickling down into my eyes.
Faster. Faster. Faster. The sun was going to come up and I’ll have to select a different route.
I inhaled sharply when I saw the sky starting to lighten up. It wasn’t just dawn anymore.
Quickly, I picked up my legs and darted toward a cave, slipping through the air. If a human being was walking down this path they would only feel a small draft.
But before I could have slipped inside the cave, I felt a sizzling hot burning light attack my left shoulder and arm, due to the exposure that my black torn shirt gave off. Plus I was wearing black; the heat attacked my left arm at a full and powerful speed, not being merciful at all.
I sucked in sharply, reeling in my burned arm into the cool dark cave.
Apparently I was so tired, running through the forest, looking for a hideout, avoiding seeing anyone or anything, that I had completely lost track of time and what part of the day it was.
I collapsed onto the floor, moaning and groaning. Twisting in the dirt, pressing my hand to the burned mark printed across and around my left arm, hoping to ease the pain.
Sweat had continued to trickle down my face and if someone would have taken a glimpse of me, due to the sneak attack that the sun planned for me and due to the lack of exhaustion my body lacked. They would have thought I’ve been crying, but knowing what I was, that wasn’t possible.
I was one of the undead, so of course I couldn’t cry. No matter how sad the situation was, I couldn’t cry for I am dead.
Writhing around in the dirt with my new found pain. Aside from the many bruises and scratches I had on all over my wretched body, the new pain overpowered them all.
To believe I withstand the many injuries that fate had in store for me. I should have never been alive or… died… Whatever you call ‘living’. For I am simply dead yet still living for whatever I had done in my past human life… Whatever I did…
