"God," he breathed.
His strangled prayer, the one that would never carry, echoed into darkness.
The man sat there in the sky-lit church, watching the stained glass of the angel under the cross. He wept and prayed until time slowed into nothing, numbing and empty.
"Give her back to me," he begged the cross. "I... I can't..."
